1956 Chrysler 300B Restored, #2- Cond. For Sale by Owner $53,000.00
1956 CHRYSLER300 B
Virgil Exner’s The “Forward look”
The first true “Letter” car with only 1,102 produced VIN: 3N561926
A #2 -/Show/Fine, Numbers Matching beauty winning its class at New Hope Auto Show in 2001 & 2007 and Buckingham Concours in 2009. Finished in “White Cloud” & Tan Leather
Chrysler may not have invented the Hemispherical combustion engine, but placing it in their late `60's lineup of Muscle Cars insured its iconic status today. This is the forerunner of those Blue Chip investment vehicles - Chrysler's 1st. true "Letter" car. I know, what about the `55? Well, there was no letter designation for the `55, sort of. The `55 300 known as the C (for coupe) 300 (hp rating of 1st hemi) wasn't called an "A". When the 2nd year 300 came out they called the `56 a "B" because the first year although a C300 would/should have been named an "A" if they thought about it more carefully. So the first letter series car was actually the `56 300"B". BTW: Who's on first?
In the hands of Carl Kiekhaefer & other NASCAR & racing pioneers, the Hemi mystique began.
A mid-western, Kansas car till 1999 when purchased by PA restoration shop. No salt, no rust. Frame-on, "sympathetic" restoration by previous owner's renowned shop in early 2000's including 85% chrome plating, most interior. Dash pad, headliner and front and rear side panels are original; the seat covers (front and rear), carpet, kick panels, armrests, rear package shelf and trunk panel/carpet kit are all new early 2000’s (over $2K for parts alone) The seat covers were made by Gary Goers, the foremost interior specialist for the 300s. His workmanship is unrivaled matching the original specifications, look & feel exactly. All seat frames, rails & all metal were refinished & new padding, bolsters etc. were professionally replaced. P/B, P/S, P/Seats, AM Radio.
PA Restoration Shop did the following: New wiring harness, kingpins, engine sub-components and brake system completely rebuilt and all bores (master and wheel cylinder and caliper) brass sleeved along w/ rebuilt power brake booster. Original engine was completely gone over including bearings, hardened valve seats, double roller timing chain, solid lifter hi-lift camshaft, windage tray, etc. (retains its original tri-metal rod and main bearings, forged and hardened crankshaft and heads) examined for wear & serviced but did not need rebuilding. We have been using fully synthetic motor oil for the last ten years. The distributor was rebuilt and converted to electronic ignition. The fuel pump, water pump, generator and date coded carbs - Carter WCFB 2445 161 & Carter WCFB 2444 161) were both rebuilt. The gas tank was dropped, cleaned and received an NOS sending unit. The starter had been serviced and did not need rebuilding. The radiator was flushed and pressure-tested. The front suspension received new components as needed. The transmission has not been touched other than fluid change and filter screen cleanout. The trunnion and universal joints in the driveshaft were replaced. The axle was dropped, replaced the differential fluid and installed new axle bearings and oil seals. *Please note that the combination of primarily highway miles and the special order 3.07:1 rear helped to save the engine from having accelerated wear on its internal components.*
The exhaust system on the 300B consists of the optional (used by Carl Kiekhaefer on his 300s) 4 bolt exhaust manifolds with 2.5 “ diameter header pipes dumping into a pair of NOS, MoPar, Sono 4X mufflers with a custom H pipe installed to balance out the exhaust. The original, restrictive exhaust manifolds and heat riser come with the car.
